We performed BUTTER SIDE UP, a short play originally written for Script Factor York, in the Corn Exchange, Leeds in September 2014.

Butter Side Up is a 10 minute play about love, loss and friendship. Anke moved to England from Germany some years ago, setting up a bakery to distract her from her loveless marriage. Ed is one of her customers, currently experiencing a great unhappiness of his own. A short chat in Anke’s shop reminds them that bread doesn’t always have to land butter side down.

Writer/Director: Claire Morley

Anke: Beryl Nairn

Ed: James Martin
